Recruiting overseas-trained doctors Doctor Connect is a government website with basic information for Overseas Trained Doctors.
Visa and registration conditions for overseas trained doctors are complex. The Northern Division may arrange advice for overseas trained doctors who wish to work in the northern suburbs. Contact Phillip Bain on 9416 7689 or email.
The Department of Health and Ageing may pay recruiting costs for practices in eligible outer urban areas. These areas are generally the same as for the "More Doctors" measure described above.
Australian Medical Council also has information for overseas trained doctors.
Non-VR doctors increased rebate – See 'Other Medical Practitioners' on the Medicare Australia website and follow the links. Further information from HIC on 132 150 or call the GP helpline 1800 667 677.
Practice nurses and allied health worker subsidy Correspondence between the Division and the Department of Health and Ageing
The subsidy is supposedly based on "workforce shortage" plus a ranking of areas by socioeconomic disadvantage. However it is only available to Division practices in the cities of Moreland and Hume. Contact Paul McGlew at the Department, (02) 6289 8647 or the PIP enquiry line 1800 222032. For information on eligibility call the GP helpline 1800 667 677.
The $7.50 bulk billing rebate for outer metropolitan areas does not apply in Melbourne's north This is because the criteria includes both GP shortage (which we have) and lower-than-average bulk billing rates (which we don't have across all areas). For the criteria and list of eligible areas see http://www.health.gov.au/medicare/news/qa.htm
