Personal information means information or an opinion (including information or an opinion forming part of a database), whether true or not, and whether recorded in a material form or not, about an individual whose identity is apparent, or can reasonably be ascertained, from the information or opinion. (p57 Guidelines on Privacy in the Private Health Sector, Office of the Federal Privacy Commissioner - October 2001)
Privacy of Information at the Division
Personal details are not disclosed by the Division under any circumstances. The Division regards all member information not available on the public record as personal information.
Adjudication on requests for information from third parties are considered by the CEO (or delegate) on an individual basis. Most commonly these requests are from other health providers for member details for information distribution, or from pharmaceutical companies for attendee contact details from sponsored training events. In all cases information released by the Division is information on the public record, and requests are evaluated on their individual merits.
In complying with the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000, the Northern Division of General Practice Melbourne Ltd provides the following advice to users of this web site about the collection, use, disclosure and storage of personal information.
