Objects of the Division

The objects for which the Company is established are to improve patient care and health status in Australia by :

  1. Facilitating improved liaison between general practitioners and other areas
    of the health care system;
  2. Ensuring the effective integration of general practice with other elements of the health care system;
  3. Enabling general practitioners to contribute to health planning at the local
    level;  
  4. Providing better access to available and appropriate general practitioner  services for patients and reducing inappropriate duplication of services;
  5. Meeting the special (and localised) health needs of groups (such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and those with non-English speaking backgrounds) or people with chronic conditions, particularly where these needs are not adequately addressed by the current health system;
  6. Facilitating the advancement of general practice;
  7. Enhancing educational and professional development opportunities for general practitioners and undergraduates;
  8. Facilitating increased general practitioner focus on illness prevention and health promotion activities; and
  9. Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of health services at the local level.
