History
The Northern Division of General Practice (NDGP) was established in September 1993 by general practitioners in the northern suburbs of Melbourne.
The Division brought together GPs from both private practice and community health who wished to have a voice in local health service planning issues.
The government agreed to fund Divisions of General Practice to provide a focus for GP involvement in the implementation of public health initiatives, to provide locally based professional development and to support reform within the sector.
The Northern Division has always worked closely with the region's public and private hospitals and in its early years was housed by the Austin and by The Northern Hospital.
Today the Division is centrally located at Level 1, 232 Plenty Rd Preston.
